The police in KwaZulu-Natal have arrested two people in the Upper Tugela area after they attempted to bribe the station commander. According to the police, a person had called the Upper Tugela station commander and arranged a meeting with him. “During the conversation, the caller mentioned that the meeting was in connection with their family member, who had been arrested in an operation conducted on Friday night.
The relative in question was arrested for being in possession of an AK47 assault rifle with 13 rounds of ammunition. The caller who was unknown to the station commander went further and hinted at the possibility of offering money to secure the release of his relative,” said the police in a statement. The station commander agreed to meet the caller at KwaDukuza Crossing.
Due to the nature of the meeting, the station commander deployed police officers close to the meeting point for the purpose of effecting the arrest should the caller give him the bribe money, reads the statement. “As prior arranged, the station commander met the person who had contacted him, and he was accompanied by another person. The two individuals handed over an amount of R 12600 to the station commander with the hope that he would orchestrate the release of the arrested relative.
