Youths attacked firefighters and Metro cops in Elsies River. Metro police officers came under attack in Leonsdale, Elsies River on Thursday afternoon when they got pelted with stones by children after trying to assist Fire and Rescue Services. It was turmoil in Leonsdale with a large group of young people attacking authorities which resulted in a Neighbourhood Safety Officer sustaining a wound to the head and had to be taken to a hospital for medical attention.
Metro Police spokesperson Ruth Solomons reported:“The information at hand is that Metro Police Officers went into the area to assist their Fire and Rescue Services colleagues during an emergency. He was treated on scene by paramedics and then taken to hospital for further medical attention. Area supervisory staff will open a case of public violence at Elsies River SAPS.” In a separate incident, Hanover Park residents were waned to be vigilant as shots were fired in various areas and is allegedly linked to gangsterism. Public relations officer for the Hanover Park Community Police Forum, Kashiefa Mohammed said that continuous shootings is a concern as it is festive season and school holidays.
