Community policing efforts in Sea Point lead to a significant drug bust, resulting in multiple arrests and showcasing the vital role of community cooperation in combating crime. Community policing is at the heart of Sea Point SAPS’ approach to tackling crime and keeping the neighbourhood safe. This initiative, built on trust and collaboration, has led to a significant breakthrough on Monday.
A concerned member of the Sea Point community approached SAPS officers who were patrolling on Beach Road and informed them about a suspicious transaction they had witnessed. While describing the suspect, they spotted him and instantly pointed him out to the police, police spokesperson,Constable Ndakhe Gwala explained. “The police members recognised the suspect as someone who had been on the police radar for suspected illegal drug activity,” Gwala said.
“They immediately stopped him and conducted a search, during which 21 bankies of tik, one full mandrax tablet, 16 half mandrax tablets and an undisclosed amount of cash was found.” The 48-year-old male suspect was arrested for dealing in drugs and is scheduled to make his first court appearance in the Cape Town Magistrate’s court. In a separate operation, Vredendal SAPS members arrested a 22-year-old male suspect for dealing in drugs. The suspect was apprehended at Hoog Street, Vredendal while police were executing a search warrant.

Eighteen mandrax tablets were found in his possession. He will appear in the Vredendal Magistrate’s court. Furthermore, members of Operation Lockdown III conducted an intelligence-driven operation at an address in Soetdoring Road, Bonteheuwel.
