Governance expert and Human Rights Advocate,Wesley Miyandahas commended Members of Parliament for what he has described as a historic and courageous decision, following the successful passage ofBill number 7, of 2025, which amends the Constitution. Speaking in an interview with the media, Mr Miyanda said the passing of the proposed constitutional amendments marks one of the most consequential political moments in Zambia’s recent history. Mr Miyanda said the outcome clearly reflects the Government’s legislative strength and its ability to mobilise support beyond its own benches in a highly contested legislative process.

The governance expert further welcomed the expansion of elected Members of Parliament, as well as the addition ofmore lawmakers, through proportional representation, saying the reforms will enhance inclusivity and representation. Mr Miyanda noted that Zambia’s population is steadily growing and that the number of Members of Parliament must correspond with the growth, to ensure full and fair representation of citizens.

“Zambians should now watch closely to see how these reforms are implemented.
