The Machinga Police has advised people from Nayuchi Border in the area of Traditional Authority Mchinguza to avoid committing suicide when facing problems, saying they should learn to share their problems with others for proper guidance and advice.
The Community Policing Coordinator for Machinga Police Station, Sub Inspector Masautso Katemera, said this while meeting community policing leaders in the area of T/A Mchinguza.
Katemera said cases of suicide through hanging and drinking poison are on the rise these days because when people face problems or stress, they do not share their issues with others who could give them appropriate guidance.

He also warned people against mob justice when they apprehend someone suspected of committing a crime. He said mob justice destroys evidence and is against the laws of the country.
Instead, suspects should be taken to the police so that proper charges can be laid.

Speaking on security during this Christmas season, Katemera said the police are committed to strengthening security both during the day and at night, working together with community policing committees in all areas of Machinga District.
He advised community policing members to inform the police or traditional leaders whenever they see suspicious people moving around their areas.
âI would like to ask you, community policing members, that during this Christmas and New Year period, let us be alert in our communities and provide security day and night so that crime does not occur,â he said.
Responding to his remarks, the Chairperson for Community Policing in the area of T/A Mchinguza, White Chilolo, thanked the Machinga Police for visiting them and guiding them on how to carry out their duties during the Christmas season.
Chilolo said community policing committee will ensure that no crime takes place in their area during this Christmas period and that they will work closely with the police to provide security.
