The fatal shooting of a 34-year-old man in Edendale on Sunday night has prompted police to urge residents to remain vigilant, especially after dark. According to uMgungundlovu police spokesperson Sergeant Sifiso Gwala, the man was walking with a friend along the road at about 11:30pm when they were confronted by five armed men. The suspects demanded money and a cellphone.
When the victim tried to run, he was shot in the chest and declared dead at the scene. “The suspects fled and remain unknown,” Gwala said. He added that cases of armed robbery and murder have been opened for investigation.
“We appeal to anyone with information to come forward to assist in tracking down the suspects. We also urge the community to avoid unnecessary movement at night, stick to well-lit areas, and report any suspicious activity immediately. “Your safety and that of your loved ones must always be a priority,” he said.
