For years, both sides had travelled in parallel each advancing, but without the level of coordination necessary to drive a truly national digital transformation. This year felt different.
The Draft Digital Services Bill signalled a clear intention to modernise how Botswana governs digital platforms and public services, building the structural clarity that innovators and investors have long needed. At the same time, the innovation ecosystem particularly through the work of the Botswana Digital & Innovation Hub continued to mature, providing more deliberate pathways for entrepreneurs to move from ideation and prototypes toward real-world pilots. These developments suggest that Botswana is entering a more intentional phase of its digital journey.
