The Minority Front (MF) has officially announced that party leader Shameen Thakur Rajbansi will contest the position of Mayor of eThekwini Metro in the 2026 Local Government Elections. According to a statement on Friday by the party, Thakur Rajbansi, who has served 25 years in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature, is one of the province’s longest-standing political figures. Thakur Rajbansi began her political career at a young age and has since built a reputation for community-focused leadership, accountability, and advocacy across cultural, faith-based, and civic sectors.

Thakur Rajbansi did not participate in the 2024 General Elections, and in accepting the nomination, Thakur Rajbansi said the MF’s priority is to rebuild confidence in local government. The MF is focused on restoring trust in local government and ensuring that service delivery reaches all communities. “I am honoured to accept this nomination by all party members and ready to work with the people of eThekwini to build a municipality that is fair, accountable, and centred on community needs.” The Minority Front has also begun recruiting ward councillor candidates for the 2026 elections and has asked interested applicants to submit their CVs with references to[email protected]
