One person has died and at least eleven others have been injured after a temple partially collapsed in Verulam, north of Durban, on Friday afternoon. According to the KZN Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) the structure came down at around 12:40 pm, prompting a major emergency response as search and rescue teams, firefighters and paramedics rushed to the scene. Cogta confirmed that eleven survivors, two women and nine men, were pulled from the debris and taken to hospital for treatment.
Cogta added that provincial disaster management teams remain on-site as crews work cautiously through unstable sections of the structure to determine whether anyone else is trapped. The cause of the collapse has not yet been established.
