Online Reporter The US$4 billion Pomona City project is shaping up in Harare, with the groundbreaking this week of Pomona Flats, a high-rise residential complex nestled within the project. The project, being spearheaded by WestProp Hodings, is a major milestone in Zimbabwe’s urban development landscape, being a smart city initiative redefining how families live, work, shop and play.Dubbed “a City within a City”, Pomona City sits adjacent to Wingate Golf Club and just minutes from the Green Zone — Harare’s fast-evolving commercial corridor. The development encapsulates the principles of the 15-minute city, where residents can access schools, workplaces, parks, healthcare, and retail options within walking distance.“Today marks more than the laying of bricks; it marks the foundation of a thriving, self-contained community,” said Ken Sharpe, the chief executive officer of WestProp Holdings.“Pomona is where urban aspirations meet lifestyle innovation — a place where families flourish.”Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, WestProp Holdings chairman, Dr Michael Louis, said the project signified the future of Harare.“Pomona Flats is not just another building project. It’s a bold declaration of where Harare is headed,” he said. “This is the city’s first high-rise development in Harare North, yes – but more significantly, it’s the cornerstone of a visionary $4 billion initiative: Pomona City.

A smart city ecosystem designed to redefine how we live, work, shop, and play. A city within a city, where community isn’t an afterthought – it’s the blueprint.”Dr Louis said the project was an “urban evolution with a soul” and a legacy.By the fourth quarter of this year, WestProp Holdings would have 10 projects active across Harare, employing over 1 000 professionals —from security staff to architects – and injecting $174 million into Zimbabwe’s urban renaissance.“But this isn’t just economic impact. It’s human impact,” said Dr Louis.WestProp chief operating officer Mrs Tatiana Ellis said the project was the beginning of a lifestyle in Harare.Pomona Flats have 22 blocks, each with 16 units across three floors, delivering 352 spacious apartments in Phase I alone. The flats have Artificail Intelligence powered security, swimming pool, gym and vibrant community activities. The Pomona Flats mark the first high-rise residential development in Harare North, and the first in a fully integrated mixed-use enclave with retail, leisure and residential options. The groundbreaking echoed WestProp’s commitment to urban regeneration, economic growth and holistic living, shaping Harare into a modern city.Share on FacebookPost on XFollow usSave
