The ANC is staging it’s fifth national general council. The purpose of the gathering is to review the party’s performance over the period since the last elective conference. The most noticeable aspect of this latest conference, like most of the provincial conferences, is the apparent lack of any race group other than black.

The ANC has made a mockery of the government. Our economy has ground along at just over one percent for most of the past 10 years. This when the country still has one of the biggest stockpiles of minerals in the world.

Instead, we have closed over 20 smelters because electricity prices have risen by about 800% over the past decade due to incompetence. One would have thought that economic issues would dominate the discussions at the national general council gathering, but no, discussion is centred around eliminating corruption. This is merely electioneering, hoping to convince voters that the ANC has changed for the good. What nonsense, the ANC couldn’t survive without corruption, BBEEE and fraudulent tenders.
