The recent provincial award presented to uMngeni Municipality for excellence in transformation and institutional development is a clear signal that KwaZulu-Natal’s people do not have to accept failing local government as the norm. These are the very fundamentals that are missing in far too many other KZN municipalities, allowing them to collapse and leaving residents to suffer the consequences of weak leadership and political interference. uMngeni’s achievements prove that the decline witnessed across much of our province is not inevitable.
When the basics are prioritised and residents come first, services improve and communities stabilise. The DA celebrates this award as it reflects our model of clean, accountable and performance-driven governance. KZN’s people deserve more municipalities that deliver like uMngeni.
