THE Zambian boxing team has opened its campaign at the 2025 IBA Men’s World Championships with a mix of encouraging victories and painful losses, as attention now shifts to the country’s top-seeded fighters who are expected to step into the ring later this week. Seven boxers are flying the flag in the global tournament, with two already through to the Round of 16, two bowing out after spirited efforts, and three of Zambia’s biggest names yet to make their first appearance in the tournament. Zambia’s first breakthrough came in the 54kg Bantamweight category where second seed Mwengo Mwale produced a confident and calculated performance to dispatch Tajikistan’s Anushervon Fazylov.
