Mufulira Municipal Council’s Department of Public Health has temporarily closed six restaurants at Malela Market for operating under extreme unsanitary conditions. According to a statement issued by the public relations unit on Friday, the establishments were found to be in violation of the Public Health Act Cap 295 of the Laws of Zambia. The Council said the restaurants were operating in conditions that posed a significant risk to public health, particularly during the rainy season.
“The closure is part of the Council’s efforts to prevent the outbreak of diseases and ensure that food establishments operate in a safe and healthy environment,” it stated. Mufulira Mayor, Tanaeli Kamanga, said the Council will continue conducting regular inspections to ensure compliance with public health regulations. “We urge all food establishments to adhere to the required standards to avoid closure,” Kamanga said.
He stressed that the local authority remained committed to maintaining a healthy environment for both traders and consumers.
