A 45-year-old man was shot dead and another wounded at 6am on Thursday, when gunmen opened fire in a gang-related incident It has been a bloody start to the December holiday season after four lives were claimed by gun violence in the Cape Metropole. A drive-by shooting in Manenberg left one man dead and another injured on Thursday morning, with police arresting one suspect after responding to the scene. Hours later, two brothers were fatally shot in Belhar and in Cloetesville, Stellenbosch, an adult male was reportedly gunned down.

Manenberg crime fighters told the Cape Argus sister publication, Daily Voice that the incident was linked to another flare-up in a turf war between Fancy Boy gang members and Hard Livings. Manenberg station commander Brigadier Jayce Naidoo said that occupants of a black Hyundai Atos accosted two men standing on the corner of Duinefontein and Turfhall Road. Naidoo explained: โ€œThe occupants of the vehicle open fire on the unsuspecting men.
