Athletes from across the province have descended on Msunduzi Athletics Stadium for the opening ceremony of the 2025 Salga DSAC Games finals. The programme for the opening ceremony is expected to begin at 3pm with dignitaries such as KZN Premier Thami Ntuli and Sports, Arts, and Culture MEC Mntomuhle Khawula in attendance. The ceremony will also have live entertainment, including a parade, singers and dancers.

Athletes at the stadium toldThe Witnessthat they have been training hard and are ready. Pietermaritzburg sisters Samiksha Maharaj and Yashmila Maharaj will be representing the district in karate. They said it was exciting to be participating in a competition of this magnitude so close to home.

ā€œWe’re used to travelling out of the province for events like this, so it’s very exciting to be representing our district in our district,ā€ they said. The sisters added that they’re hoping to perform well and have fun while doing so. Athletes from the Ugu District, javelin and high jump athlete Morne Moolman and 100m runner Tatum Kiewiets said that it was a long drive to Pietermaritzburg this morning, but that they were still as enthusiastic as ever to be participating in the games.
