An eight-year-old boy has died after being hit by a motor vehicle along Nakatindi road in Livingstone. Southern Province Police Commissioner, Moono Namalongo, confirmed the accident saying it occurred yesterday around 16:50 hours near Nakatindi Primary School.According to Mr Namalongo, the accident involved a Howo Sino truck and trailer which was being driven by 35-year-old Ernest Kantumoya of Kimiteto area in Solwezi district.He said the truck, bearing registration numbers BCG 1486 ZM and AJF 5803 ZM, was travelling from east to west when the juvenile pedestrian attempted to cross the road.“The young boy, identified as Honest Malambo, aged 8, of Parklands in Livingstone, attempted to cross from the southern side of the road to the northern side and was unfortunately hit by the oncoming truck,” Mr Namalongo explained.He added that the driver escaped unhurt, and the truck did not sustain any visible damage.“Sadly, the child sustained fatal head injuries and died on the spot. His body has since been deposited at Batoka hospital mortuary, where a postmortem examination will be conducted,” he stated.Mr Namalongo has since conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and urged motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution, especially near schools and residential areas.“Road safety is a shared responsibility.
We appeal to all road users to be vigilant to prevent such heartbreaking incidents,” he said.Police have since launched investigations into the accident.
