Mighty Wanderers Football Club and Mukuru Money Transfer Limited Thursday agreed not to renew their contract, ending a three-year romance. The decision to part ways with Mukuru comes few days after the club signed a season-long kit sponsorship dealworth K100 million with betting company 888bets. The two parties have confirmed the development in a joint statement dated January 23 2025.
It has been signed by Wanderers Board Secretary Chancy Gondwe and Mukuru’s Chief Marketing Officer. “The parties hereby announce that they have mutually agreed not to renew the sponsorship agreement between Mighty Wanderers and Mukuru,” the statement reads. But the two parties did not reveal reasons for not extending the contract.
“Mighty Wanderers Football Club expresses gratitude for the fruitful partnership and [will] always cherish the positive experiences shared during this collaboration,” it further reads. As part of the deal, Mukuru had naming and branding rights. Last season, Mukuru’s logo was displayed at the back of the team’s kit.

Mukuru Country Manager Pride Sam Chiwaya was yet to respond to our questionnaire as we went to press Thursday. The exit of Mukuru could be a big setback to Wanderers as they expressed interest in participating in the 2025 Caf Confederation Cup, which demands a lot of resources. International money transfer firm Mukuru partnered Wanderers in June 2022.
Mukuru’s annual package was pegged at K175 million annually. The company offers money transfer services in many countries including those in Africa, Europe and Asia. Mukuru also sponsors English Premier League side Crystal Palace.
