News / NationalFuzwayo, Ibhetshu Likazulu seeking to block Zanu-PF’s Resolution 1by Staff reporter1 hr ago |84ViewsCitizen activist Mbuso Fuzwayo and civil society group Ibhetshu Likazulu have approached the Constitutional Court of Zimbabwe seeking to block the implementation of Zanu PF’s Resolution 1 of 2024, which proposes extending President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s term of office to 2030.In their urgent constitutional application, the applicants argue that the ruling party’s resolution – and any subsequent government action to enforce it – would violate the Constitution and infringe on citizens’ political rights guaranteed under the supreme law.Resolution 1 of 2024, adopted at the party’s annual conference, reportedly seeks to align internal party policy with an extended presidential tenure beyond the current two-term constitutional limit.Fuzwayo and Ibhetshu Likazulu contend that such a move would amount to an unconstitutional usurpation of the people’s will, undermining democratic principles and the rule of law.”The Constitution is clear that the President’s term is limited to two five-year terms.
No resolution, political decision, or policy can override that,” the applicants argue in their court papers. They are asking the Constitutional Court to issue an interdict barring the government, Parliament, and any state organ from taking steps to implement or give effect to Zanu-PF’s resolution. The case comes amid growing political debate over succession and constitutionalism, with critics accusing the ruling party of attempting to entrench power beyond constitutional limits, while government officials insist that any decision on leadership extension must follow due process. The Constitutional Court is yet to set a date for the hearing of the matter.Source – onlineMore on:#Fuzwayo,#Court,#Zanu-PFJoin the discussionLoading comments…Enable JavaScript to view comments.Live UpdatesGet the Daily DigestSubscribeSubscribe to the Daily DigestMust ReadChiwenga’s Inauguration Trip to Tanzania Exposed His Confusion*34 mins ago |92 ViewsFrom static to dynamic: adding transparent background logos in CapCut34 mins ago |23 ViewsGifford Sibanda Resigns from Ibhetshu LikaZulu43 mins ago |48 ViewsBREAKING: Senior Ibhetshu LikaZulu Official Resigns Over Tshabangu Links and Strategic Rift52 mins ago |80 ViewsBiti slams alleged use of phantom court cases to legitimise Mnangagwa’s 2030 agenda2 hrs ago |149 ViewsFilabusi youth seeks US$30,000 for life-saving liver transplant2 hrs ago |74 ViewsRobert Mugabe Jnr issued with warrant of arrest2 hrs ago |191 ViewsMajor scandal erupts over Mnangagwa’s alleged 2030 term extension plot2 hrs ago |310 ViewsProphet Magaya followers, business in disarray2 hrs ago |337 ViewsMadzibaba WeShanduko seriously ill in prison2 hrs ago |179 ViewsZimra launches fresh crack down on tax compliance2 hrs ago |137 ViewsPolice probe Bulawayo bus company owner2 hrs ago |163 ViewsGranny wins protection order against abusive sons2 hrs ago |79 ViewsHarare men arrested for kidnapping 14-year-old girl2 hrs ago |73 ViewsBCC grapples with illegal miners2 hrs ago |72 ViewsMwonzora accuses Mnangagwa of leading a ‘corrupt cabal’ amid third-term push3 hrs ago |164 ViewsPlot to block Sanyatwe’s rise in ZANU-PF exposed, amid allegations of political maneuvering3 hrs ago |550 ViewsTravel vlogger denied access to Nehanda statue5 hrs ago |198 ViewsIMF says Zimbabwe highly dollarised5 hrs ago |401 ViewsWhy defending Zimbabwe’s Constitution is defending the country5 hrs ago |95 ViewsZimbabwe restricts access to Nehanda Statue5 hrs ago |196 ViewsChiwenga unhappy with Bhulaayo Kraal Project8 hrs ago |734 Views2030: Are we falling for a Zanu PF distraction, again?8 hrs ago |433 ViewsVodacom reaches landmark settlement with ‘Please Call Me’ inventor8 hrs ago |396 ViewsZimbabwe moves closer to upper-middle-income status8 hrs ago |202 ViewsZimbabwe calls for data-driven policymaking8 hrs ago |75 ViewsHigh Court suspiciously grants notorious armed robber bail8 hrs ago |506 ViewsMudenda warns MPs on govt looting8 hrs ago |372 ViewsFurore over Harare’s US$750m water meter project8 hrs ago |157 ViewsToday’s Most ReadChiwenga not Zanu-PF’s chosen one21 hrs ago |1331 ViewsJoshua Nkomo’s ex-bodyguard stealing Zpra property?20 hrs ago |1099 ViewsChiwenga orders end to raw lithium exports by January20 hrs ago |959 ViewsChiwenga unhappy with Bhulaayo Kraal Project8 hrs ago |734 ViewsMphoko’s estate opened for claims20 hrs ago |803 ViewsPlot to block Sanyatwe’s rise in ZANU-PF exposed, amid allegations of political maneuvering3 hrs ago |550 ViewsHigh Court suspiciously grants notorious armed robber bail8 hrs ago |506 ViewsMagaya granted bail24 hrs ago |859 ViewsZimbabwe moves to liberalise gold ownership20 hrs ago |588 Views2030: Are we falling for a Zanu PF distraction, again?8 hrs ago |433 ViewsRead All Our Latest News
