NewsSportsBy Nyasha ChumaHarare – Zimbabwe national cricket team player Sean Williams has reportedly checked into drug rehabilitation after voluntarily withdrawing from national duty and subsequently admitting to drug addiction,Express Mail Zim Sports can report.This was revealed in a statement by Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) this week .” ZC egrets to announce that Sean Williams has made himself unavailable for national selection, most recently withdrawing on the eve of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier 2025 in Harare amid potential anti-doping testing procedures,” partly read the statement.This confession came after the mother body conducted an internal review to ascertain the reasons behind his withdrawal.Williams disclosed that he has been battling drug addiction and has voluntarily entered a rehabilitation programme to address his condition.“ZC holds all contracted players to the highest standards of professionalism, discipline and compliance with team protocols and anti-doping regulations, ” further reads the statement.However, a review of Williams’ history shows a pattern of disciplinary challenges and periods of unavailability which have at times affected team preparations and performance.Analysts say while ZC commends Williams for taking the courageous step to seek help and begin his recovery journey, his withdrawal from national duties under circumstances involving potential doping tests raise a stink on the behavior within the gentlemen’s game.The silver lining on Brendan Taylor is a case of Phoenix rising from the doldrums of shame after being convicted of match-fixing had Zimbabwe Cricket on a rejuvenated stream which included the recent Test series win against Afghanistan at Harare Sports Club.“After careful consideration, ZC has determined that Williams will no longer be considered for national selection.
