HARARE – President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Wednesday presided over a ZANU PF Politburo meeting where he chose to highlight his party’s political strength, sidestepping Zimbabwe’s deepening economic crisis.

Speaking at the party headquarters in Harare, Mnangagwa congratulated ZANU PF structures for what he called “electoral dominance,” citing victories in recent by-elections in Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East, and Masvingo provinces.

“Going forward, I urge all structures to consolidate these electoral gains as well as the dominance and popularity of our Party,” he said. “There is no room for complacency. Strengthening the Party, sharpening our mobilization techniques, and wholeheartedly serving our people should be the day-to-day mandate of our Party.”

While many Zimbabweans continue to face skyrocketing prices, water shortages, and poor wages, the ZANU PF leader focused instead on internal party mobilisation and political events.

He praised ongoing “empowerment programmes” and encouraged youth, women, and war veterans to remain active in party activities.

“We must deepen national consciousness amongst the youths to enable them to respond to the ever-shifting needs of our people,” he added.

Mnangagwa also highlighted recent international engagements with Japan and Equatorial Guinea, stating that Zimbabwe is strengthening its diplomatic ties.

Touching briefly on the issue of road safety, Mnangagwa vowed to crack down on reckless drivers. “Bad behaviour on our roads is not tolerated,” he said — but made no mention of the deteriorating condition of Zimbabwe’s road network, which continues to contribute to fatal accidents.

The Politburo is expected to receive reports on Heroes Day, Defence Forces Day, and the upcoming Annual National People’s Conference — high-profile events that proceed amid mounting public frustration over economic hardship.
