News / NationalGorimbo’s brave stand ends in painful decision lossby Staff reporter40 mins ago |94ViewsZIMBABWE’S UFC welterweight fighter, Themba Gorimbo, suffered his second straight defeat after a hard fought three round battle that ended in a unanimous decision loss to American Jeremiah Wells (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Vegas 110 yesterday. It was a fight that showcased Gorimbo’s heart and persistence, but the judges saw it differently.

Wells, who came into the contest desperate to avoid a third consecutive loss, did just enough to edge out the Zimbabwean despite long spells of pressure from Gorimbo.Wells (12-4-1) had been out of action for over a year following back to back defeats to Carlston Harris and Max Griffin, while Gorimbo (14-5) entered the bout looking to rebound from a loss to Vicente Luque at UFC 310 that snapped his three fight winning streak. The opening round saw Gorimbo waste no time asserting himself, shooting for early takedowns after Wells rocked him with a right hand. The Zimbabwean twice dragged Wells to the canvas, advancing into full mount before taking his opponent’s back and landing strikes from the top.

Wells, however, managed to escape and reversed the position late in the round to finish on top.The second round was more even. Wells began landing cleaner combinations, but Gorimbo kept looking for takedowns, repeatedly forcing scrambles. Each time Gorimbo went for control, Wells threatened with submissions, guillotines and arm triangle chokes, testing the Zimbabwean’s composure and defense. As the round wore on, Gorimbo’s energy began to dip, allowing Wells to dominate the final seconds from mount.By the third round, both fighters were visibly tired, but Wells found a late surge. He landed heavy punches early before being taken down again.

Gorimbo briefly held top control, yet Wells reversed and regained dominance, spending the final minute in top position, landing short strikes to close the fight strongly.Despite Gorimbo’s relentless effort and early control, the judges favored Wells’ stronger finish and submission pressure, handing the American a much-needed victory.Gorimbo now drops to 4-3 in the UFC but remains a fan favourite for his warrior spirit and resilience inside the Octagon.Source – CagesidepressMore on:#Gorimbo,#Loss,#UFCJoin the discussionLoading comments…Enable JavaScript to view comments.Live UpdatesGet the Daily DigestSubscribeSubscribe to the Daily DigestMust ReadMan rapes 93-year-old grandmother38 mins ago |83 ViewsMatebeleland South records drop in maternal deaths39 mins ago |25 Views1 killed, 17 injured in Harare crash41 mins ago |80 ViewsSchool confiscates learners’ bags over unpaid fees42 mins ago |59 ViewsZanu-PF divisions over Mnangagwa term extension42 mins ago |108 ViewsActivist’s home petrol-bombed over ED2030 debate44 mins ago |88 ViewsWhy Walter Magaya was arrested44 mins ago |111 ViewsEx-soldier in land grabbing storm45 mins ago |48 ViewsMan rapes Grade 7 cousin45 mins ago |46 ViewsScottland FC buys 2025 PSL championship title46 mins ago |61 ViewsResidents demand action against machete gangs46 mins ago |50 ViewsPolice dismiss fake statement on Chivayo47 mins ago |48 ViewsPolice bust cybercrime trio48 mins ago |34 ViewsPolitics behind Zimbabwe’s celebrity car bonanza48 mins ago |47 ViewsZanu-PF, CCC MPs face recall over ED203049 mins ago |56 ViewsHwange to repossess stands to recover US$6m50 mins ago |30 ViewsCIO boss arrested for dealing cocaine50 mins ago |79 ViewsMandaza demands answers over silence on SAPES Trust bombing51 mins ago |28 ViewsHarare official under fire over workshops invite52 mins ago |34 ViewsMusic should inspire, not corrupt52 mins ago |27 ViewsZimbabwe inflation plummets53 mins ago |39 ViewsZimbabwe breaks wheat production record54 mins ago |29 ViewsChimombe, Mpofu sentencing postponed55 mins ago |45 ViewsZimbabwe steps up preps for 2025/26 summer cropping season56 mins ago |25 ViewsCorruption blights student nurses recruitment57 mins ago |34 ViewsZimbabwe scraps 11 licence requirements57 mins ago |47 ViewsZimbabwe intensifies spying on citizens58 mins ago |43 ViewsDuo jailed for culpable homicide59 mins ago |41 ViewsSoldier killed in love triangle stabbing60 mins ago |37 ViewsToday’s Most ReadBREAKING: Prophet alter Magaya Arrested on Charges of Rape and Fraud01 Nov 2025 at 10:48hrs |3272 ViewsChiwenga’s wife catching strays31 Oct 2025 at 09:09hrs |3983 ViewsWoman dies after falling into concealed pit while relieving herself01 Nov 2025 at 08:38hrs |2141 Views’Mnangagwa is panicking’31 Oct 2025 at 09:12hrs |3391 ViewsSolusi University student caught with stolen laptops in satchel01 Nov 2025 at 08:36hrs |1415 Views’Eat my wife, I kill myself’31 Oct 2025 at 09:03hrs |2708 ViewsSupreme Court nullifies Welshman Ncube AI-generated legal submissions31 Oct 2025 at 10:10hrs |1630 ViewsAssemblies of God loses court battle, slapped with punitive costs01 Nov 2025 at 08:17hrs |1085 ViewsWhy Walter Magaya was arrested44 mins ago |111 ViewsCivil servants will this year receive two bonuses1 hr ago |109 ViewsRead All Our Latest News
