B-Metro ReporterTHE law is tightening its grip on criminals across Zimbabwe as police recorded a trail of arrests and convictions for fraud, wildlife crimes, robbery and copper cable theft.In Zvishavane, Stanford Dube (37) landed a five-year jail term after duping a complainant of US$34 411. He had promised to help release motor vehicles held by ZIMRA at Beitbridge Border Post but was later exposed and convicted of fraud at the Zvishavane Magistrates’ Court.In Filabusi, Prince Sibanda (36) is serving nine years for unlawful possession of a live pangolin without a permit.

He appeared before Tredgold Magistrates’ Court on 28 October where he was convicted of the serious wildlife offence.A five-member gang from Chitungwiza comprising Albert Rukwava (37), Tinashe Darlington (36), Simbarashe Musariri (28), Monalisa Kamusoso (22) and Nomsa Chambe (24) got five years each for a violent robbery. The gang attacked two victims in March and made off with US$1 020 before being brought to justice on 28 October.In Guruve, Fainos Chivige was convicted of unlawful possession of an unmarked elephant tusk.

He was sentenced to nine years in jail after appearing before the Guruve Magistrates’ Court on 29 October.Meanwhile in Mutawatawa, Johannes Kaswove will spend ten years behind bars for vandalising ZESA transformers and stealing copper cables, a crime that left parts of the community in the dark.National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the force would continue clamping down on criminal syndicates.“The Zimbabwe Republic Police reiterates its commitment to deal decisively with all forms of crime.
