Zimbabwe strengthens international ties as new ambassadors present credentials

Story by Josephine Mugiyo, Diplomatic CorrespondentTHREE new ambassadors from Pakistan, Germany and Spain on Monday presented their credentials to President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House, reaffirming Zimbabwe’s commitment to deepening international cooperation and economic engagement.First to present his credentials was His Excellency Muhammad Amjad Aziz Qazi of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, who said his mission is to enhance bilateral cooperation.“We had a fruitful conversation with President Mnangagwa where we explored areas of mutual interest, including trade and investment. Our political ties are already cordial, and we look forward to strengthening economic collaboration,” he said.Germany’s new envoy, His Excellency Ambassador Christoph Retzlaff, underscored the potential for increased investment, noting Germany’s strong global economic standing.“There is significant room to deepen relations. Our goal is not only to increase trade but also to facilitate more German investments into Zimbabwe,” he said.Spain’s incoming ambassador, Miss Lourdes Sagroinz, highlighted tourism and renewable energy as key areas of cooperation.“Spain received 85 million tourists in 2024 and is ready to work with Zimbabwe in tourism and other sectors such as renewable energy,” she said.Zimbabwe continues to leverage diplomatic partnerships to drive economic growth and strengthen international ties.
