Parliament holds final preparations for SONA

Story by Peter ChivhimaALL is set for the official opening of the Third Session of the Tenth Parliament, with final rehearsals having been held at the Parliament Building in Mt Hampden on the eve of the event.The Parliament Parade Square in Mt Hampden was a hive of activity this Monday as the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, Zimbabwe Republic Police and other stakeholders took part in final preparations, including ceremonial drills and security checks, to ensure the smooth running of the official opening and the State of the Nation Address (SONA) by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.Cleck of Parliament Mr Kennedy Chokuda confirmed Parliament’s readiness for the big day.“It is all set for the official opening of the Third Session of the Tenth Parliament and the President, His Excellency Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa will preside over the event,” Mr Chokuda said.The official opening will mark the beginning of a new legislative session in line with Section 140 (1) of the Constitution.The Head of State is also expected to outline government’s legislative agenda, setting the tone for policy direction and national priorities in the coming year.As per tradition, the address will also provide an overview of the political, economic, and social state of the nation.
