The National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) has taken a significant step towards revitalizing the local film industry with the launch of its inaugural film grant, a groundbreaking initiative funded by the Lotteries and Gaming Board. The grant ceremony, held in Harare, celebrated the first three recipients of the fund, each receiving a share of the initial $6,000 grant.
In his opening speech, NACZ CEO Napoleon Nyanhi highlighted the grant as a fulfillment of the council’s promise to actively promote and support the film sector. The grants were awarded to three deserving filmmakers, with each winner receiving $3,000.
The event’s momentum was amplified by the speech of the Lotteries and Gaming Board Chair, Dr. Chidhakwa, who articulated a bold vision for the future of film in Zimbabwe. Dr. Chidhakwa announced plans to launch a short film competition in collaboration with the NACZ, focusing on the effects of lottery and gaming.
