Celebs & EntertainmentNewsOpinion by Nigel PfundeLocal comedian Comic Elder has become the talk of the town after receiving a brand new Ford Raptor vehicle as a gift for his comic genius.He got the roaring beast all because of jokes- that ain’t funny gentle reader!It gets you thinking that is it the time of the Biblical rapture when funny guys get raptors?Cracking jokes and comic skits has now apparently become a fast track to owning one of the most coveted cars on the market, while university graduates who have spent years toiling away in lecture halls find themselves working as street vendors.The game has changed and gotten deeper like what Diddy said in one of his songs (No diddy)!The world is now witnessing a new era where laughter has paved the way to success.Trevor Noah is another perfect example- the brother is balling so hard in the States sitting on soft leather like what Birdman said in his song of the same name .I give props to Comic Elder for his sharp satirical takes on Zimbabwean life and he has always used humor to shed light on the country’s socio-political issues earning him legions of fans.But to receive such a gift for simply making people laugh is something of a modern day miracle.The boy has an ability to poke fun at everything from politics to daily struggles and I think he is now turning his passion into payment.While some may chuckle at the irony of a comedian driving away in a high end truck while others with degrees are still looking for work I think the reality is that the arts are now being taken seriously.The government now recognises creativity and entertainment as a career paths and I hope more money will be invested in that sector .I have worked at Zimbabwe’s first soapie Studio 263 and there were a lot of talented creatives but most of them are wallowing in poverty.Some of them are waitress in South Africa so if the government invest more in the arts sector it will be commendable.i however applaud Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture Tino Machakaire for pushing hard.That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!Nigel Pfunde writes this opinion in his own capacity as Express Mail Zim founding editor and this piece takes a light hearted approach to the harsh realities of life hence pregnant with take aways of street lingua- Laugh out Loud!
