The installation of Silibaziso Mlotshwa as substantive Chief Mvuthu in Hwange District has sparked debate, with some community members questioning her age and the government’s decision to provide her with expensive benefits.

The ceremony, held Friday at the Mlotshwa homestead, was presided over by Deputy Minister of Local Government and Public Works, Albert Mavhunga, who handed her traditional regalia and the keys to a brand-new government vehicle. “Ms.

Silibaziso Mlotshwa being installed today as Chief Mvuthu was born on 5 December 1994 here in Hwange District,” Mavhunga said during the event. “She is a role model to the youth, having served as a community teacher and later with the Jafuta Foundation, where she worked tirelessly to empower women and children. ”
While officials praised her as a youthful leader with a strong community record, critics argued that the installation highlighted misplaced government priorities, particularly the gifting of a costly vehicle at a time when many villagers face poverty and lack of basic services. 🔗
