Joseph MadzimureZimpapers Politics HubAT least 250 000 members from the opposition have joined ZANU PF under the Dzokai Kumusha/Buyani Ekhaya (Come Home) programme, ZANU PF Commissariat department has confirmed.Coordinator of the Dzokai Kumusha/Buyani Ekhaya programme in the Commissariat department Cde Blessing Chebundo said the revolutionary party is all-embracing and its leadership will continue implementing the programme, which has seen thousands from the opposition joining the ruling party.Addressing returnees in Harare, Cde Chebundo confirmed that up to date, 250 000 members have joined ZANU PF from the opposition.The members are defecting to ZANU PF after realising that President Mnangagwa is implementing policies meant to develop the nation.“We have seen a massive transformation of the economy in various sectors such as power, road rehabilitation, food self-sufficient, and wheat surplus for the first time in the history of Zimbabwe, dam construction, stability of the Zig currency and taming of inflation.“With such a developmental trajectory, there is no need to oppose for the sake of opposing,” said Cde Chebundo.He added that they are currently mobilising and recruiting more members to join the ruling party.He also said returnees will have an opportunity to interact with President Mnangagwa next month to share their experiences since they joined ZANU PF.He said on November 12, 2025, President Mnangagwa will address members from the Kumusha/ Ekhaya (Home) initiative, with 5 000 delegates expected to attend the gathering.Speaking at the same occasion, ZANU PF Harare Provincial Political Commissar Cde Voyage Dambuza said all returnees should submit themselves to the Commissariat department.“All Political Commissars from the four zones in Harare should recruit more members to ensure everyone belongs to Zanu PF.“President Mnangagwa will meet with 5000 returnees from the opposition next month,” said Cde Dambuza.Cde Dambuza highlighted that President Mnangagwa wants to listen to the views of the returnees and discuss how they can be incorporated into the party.He further highlighted that the programme is meant to welcome those who are coming back from opposition political parties.He appealed to former opposition members to create a joint venture with party structures.“We are going to have a massive recruitment of people from the opposition party back into Zanu PF.“If you look at how the party performed in recent by-elections, there is an indication that we are gaining a lot of ground in terms of retaining all those seats that we lost to the opposition.“So today we witnessed the return of prominent people from the opposition, people who founded the MDC in 1999.
