The statistics were shared with Mmegi Online by the Ministry of Health (MoH) Thursday morning. According to the ministry’s acting spokesperson, Mompoloki Lekoto, out of the 102 births recorded, 50 were male while 52 were female. Princess Marina Hospital recorded the highest number of deliveries at 21, followed by Scottish Livingstone Hospital with 11.
Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital in Francistown registered six deliveries. Lekoto said the Ministry is still compiling comprehensive data from all facilities. “We have 27 facilities in total, including two referral hospitals, seven district hospitals and 17 primary hospitals.
We are still compiling the overall statistics so that we can provide detailed information, including delivery times and whether there were twins or triplets. Once finalised, we will share the full statistics with the nation,” Lekoto said. The crimes detailed elsewhere in this edition from the loss of a former minister to the heartbreaking murder of a child, and public arson to relentless gender-based violence, paint a distressing picture of a society under strain. These are not isolated tragedies. They are a collective alarm bell, ringing out as we enter a period meant for peace and goodwill. The festive season, while a time of joy, can also amplify existing pressures.
