Jwaneng Galaxy forward Thabang Sesinyi has solidified his place as one of the FNB Premiership’s most lethal strikers. Known affectionately as Gaucho in football circles, Sesinyi claimed his fourth Golden Boot in five seasons, underscoring a remarkable run of consistency, clinical finishing, and endurance at the pinnacle of domestic football. The veteran forward, widely celebrated as one of the league’s most precise attackers, hit a major career milestone in August 2025, surpassing 100 professional goals, a testament to his enduring excellence and impact on the game.
Sesinyi’s latest Golden Boot victory highlights his sustained dominance in front of goal across multiple seasons. Despite mounting competition and evolving tactical demands, the striker has maintained impressive scoring numbers, adapting his game while consistently delivering for Jwaneng Galaxy. His stats cement his reputation as a forward who thrives across campaigns and tactical shifts alike.
This season’s Golden Boot race came down to a dramatic final day. Both Sesinyi and his closest rival entered the last round tied on 16 goals, setting the stage for a tense showdown. Sesinyi rose to the occasion spectacularly, netting four goals against Township Rollers to pull clear and claim the award in emphatic fashion.

His late surge proved too much for his challenger, adding another defining moment to a career marked by clutch performances. Looking ahead, Sesinyi revealed in 2024 that his sights are set on breaking the league’s single-season goal record, held by Terrence Mandaza since the 2009-2010 campaign. Mandaza, a former Township Rollers legend, scored 31 goals that season, a record that has stood unchallenged for over a decade.
“For me, I have always said it is in the books, it is possible. It is just that we are dealing with different dynamics, different times of play, and I do not know how the competition was during his time,” Sesinyi said. “Probably they did not play the Champions League like we are doing, so it takes a lot to try to concentrate in all these competitions in a single season.
To try to play the 90 minutes, to try to be always sharp, to avoid injuries but it is always in the books to break that mark.” When quizzed about how he feels about being a golden boot winner for four consecutive times in five seasons, Sesinyi said, “It feels like a dream, I haven’t touch base with the fact that I have won it for the fourth time. I believe true feelings will probably surface 20 years down the line when I tell the stories to my grandchildren,” He revealed that Thatayaone Kgamanyane has proven time and time again that he is a very good and competitive striker. “Because for every season I have won the award he has always been there competing with me pound for pound.
That’s shows the tenacity that he embodies when it comes to scoring,” Sesinyi revealed. Meanwhile, Sesinyi’s main rival in the goal race, Kgamanyane of Gaborone United, also closed the season strongly, scoring twice as GU secured a 2–1 victory over BDF XI. Despite his efforts, Kgamanyane fell short of overtaking Sesinyi in the scoring charts.
After the season concluded, Kgamanyane reflected on the fierce competition and expressed respect for Sesinyi’s achievement. “A tough season for me. I had injuries, but overall I think I did well looking at the goals I contributed for the team,” he said.
“It’s unfortunate that I didn’t take it, but our competition will drag on for some time looking at our age. I am happy for him and congratulations to him. Most importantly, I am happy that I helped my team win the league.” The rivalry between Sesinyi and Kgamanyane has become one of the defining stories of recent FNB Premiership seasons.
Both strikers have consistently pushed each other to new heights, their contrasting styles adding excitement and intensity to the league. Sesinyi’s game is built on positioning, experience, and sharp finishing inside the box, while Kgamanyane’s strengths lie in his pace, movement, and adaptability in attacking transitions. Together, they’ve set a high bar for local forwards chasing scoring glory.
Though Kgamanyane missed out on this year’s Golden Boot, he remains a key figure among the league’s elite attackers, playing a pivotal role in Gaborone United’s successful campaign. Meanwhile, Sesinyi, now 33, continues to defy age expectations with his goal-scoring consistency. Kgamanyane, three years younger, is widely regarded as a long-term contender in future scoring battles. As their rivalry unfolds, fans of Botswana football can look forward to more thrilling Golden Boot contests, with both players firmly at the heart of the league’s attacking storylines.
