Face of Africa: Zim model finishes in top 3

ZIMBABWEAN supermodel Rosanna Hall finished in the top three at the Face of Africa finals held in Nigeria's commercial port city of Lagos on Saturday night.

Zambia’s Lukando Nalungwe emerged the winner of this year's Face of Africa competition, pocketing US$50 000 cash and a modelling contract with O Model Africa.

Rosanna, who was resplendent in long braided hair and a black outfit, took the competition right to the wire, and held on to the hand of Lukando tenaciously as the final winner was announced.

Initially, 20 finalists were in contention, then they were slashed to 10, then five and eventually the top three, that included Rosanna.

The event was hosted by African television entertainment company M-Net, and was attended by Nigerian politicians and a number of African celebrities. The Face of Africa competition has in the past jumpstarted the careers of many young African women in the world of fashion and modelling.

The final 10 contestants were unveiled at the final event on Saturday evening where Nalungwe emerged victorious.

Nalungwe said her success only came after her continued persistence to be a part of the competition. — Mnet/Zimbabwe Reporter.com.

"I started trying when I was 17 years old, Face of Africa crew came to my country, I tried it, I couldn't make it.

"The following year again I tried, unfortunately I wasn't lucky again.

"After two years they came back to my country. I was 19, and I tried again and I knew I could make it, I never gave up.

"When they came to my country last year a, night before the big event where I was to represent my country my little brother passed away," said Nalungwe.

Nalungwe (22) is currently studying business administration in Kabwe, Zambia.

Aside from winning US$50 000 and an international modelling contract, Nalungwe will also takes home wristwatches, a laptop and more money for shopping.
