Crime drops in Ruwa

HR.

Police have lauded Ruwa residents and the business community for working with law enforcement agents to reduce crime in the area last year.

According to statistics, the number of police reports in 2009 was 1 261 down from 1 952 in 2008, translating to a 35 percent decrease.

Speaking at belated end of year celebrations on Saturday, the officer commanding administration in Harare Suburban District, Superintendent Isaac Mufunguri said, Ruwa Police Station was one of the best posts in the province.

Crimes of unlawful entry and theft dropped to 312 from 467 in 2008 while robbery cases witnessed a notable slump from 51 to 33.

Ruwa recorded 248 assault cases in 2008 compared to 149 last year while theft fell from 874 to 491.

"It is quite pleasing to note that you scored achievements in the year 2009 in view of the shortcomings taking into consideration the unavailability of resources with more crimes being committed each day," said Supt Mufunguri.
