A Zimbabwean beauty has been crowned Miss Valentine-UK 2010 in one of the most glamorous and spectacular southern African beauty contests ever staged in Great Britain by an African community. The show, by KLM Entertainers was based mainly on physical beauty of the contestants but also incorporated personality, talent, and answers to judges' questions as judged criteria. The magnificent episode, last Saturday night in Coventry, also attracted several Zimbabwean celebrities -due to its touch of class. Miss Carol Kumbukani, a 25 year-old Zimbabwean based in Brentwood, Essex was crowned Miss KLM Valentine 2010 in a colourful but rigorous event. Another Zimbabwean, Miss Rumbie Chipato based in Southampton was nominated first run-up while the second run-up was taken by Miss Norah Thimuna from the Democratic Republic of Congo. The KLM Miss Valentine showcased some of the most talented hotties from southern Africa and, indeed raised the roof at Coventry’s Britannia Hotel. Fabulous women all from southern Africa went head-to-head in talent, swimsuit and traditional regalia for the title of Miss KLM Valentine 2010. The amazing Kevin Ncube - former ZBC television and radio personality fronted the beauty show and was on hand to make hilarious commentary. The winner was ultimately chosen by a panel of judges consisting of Big brother contestant Makhosi Musambasi, broadcasting phenomenon Ezra Tshisa Sibanda, journalism genius Mduduzi Mathuthu editor of NewZimbabwe.com, former Miss Highlanders Ms Olga Devos among others. The event, put together by Kholiwe Mpala, Londani Mpofu and Mkhululi Mpofu operating as KLM Entertainments became the first ever colourful Miss Valentine show to be staged by a Zimbabwean group in the United Kingdom encompassing the entire southern African beauties.
Makhosi Musambasi who was among six judges fired the first salvo to a contestant when she asked – who is the US secretary of state? However, the contestant had no clue who the US secretary of state was. Mathuthu asked a question on climate change which the audience felt was a little bit above the calibre of the contestants, while Ezra asked a question on the meaning of justice. Perhaps the most tantalising contestant's answer came from Makhosi’s second question: “If you had power to change something in Zimbabwe, what will you change?” While the audience screamed change president! The contestant said she would change the way orphanages were managed. The KLM Miss Valentine strives to give these women the opportunity to rise to the top. Pageant participants return to their hometowns and promote community involvement. Zimbabwean poety Dumisani Senda, Decibel, Kwaito group Phitso and dancing sensation Sisa Mkandla were among the entertainers.
